What did I miss?
Extra Fun...

Welcome to our class website!

We're so glad you can join us!  This is an interactive web-site maintained by Mrs. Houk and her second grade class!  Everyone is welcome to join in!

A class web site can be a creative way of getting students (and parents) excited about a subject, keeping them up to date on assignments, and providing them with valuable online resources.  Because a class site should be engaging, I'll attempt to present information that makes the subject both interesting and fun.  I'll try to include plenty of links so students (and parents) can explore a wealth of ideas on the web.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with ideas, question, or concerns.  I love hearing from both parents and students.  My contact information is listed in the Meet Mrs. Houk tab on the left navigation bar.

Don't forget, we will be going to the Springfield Zoo to view animal habitats on April 13.  The cafeteria will provide us with sack lunches.  If your lunch is not paid already, you will need to bring money that day to pay the cafeteria before we leave.  You are also welcome to bring your own lunch.  You are allowed to bring money for snacks and/or souvenirs, but you must keep track of it.  I will not be responsible for lost or stolen money or purchases.    You must have your permission slip turned in by April 12 to attend.  No exceptions.

NOTES ON TAKING NOTES!

Note cards

These offer you another very simple way to record important facts. When you're ready to write the report, just rearrange the cards in logical order and write connecting statements. The report practically writes itself!

• Give your card a title (identify the topic of the card).

• Use a separate card for each bit of information.

• Be sure to list the source where you find the information.

Here's an example of what you might find on a note card:

Topic: dogs in space before people

Source #1 This number identifies your source. Use proper citations.

Information (or quote):

"Before astronauts orbited Earth, dogs paved the way for future exploration and for putting people in space."

Page 34 (Identifies the page where you found your information)

You don't have to copy the whole sentence. It's okay to use phrases or part of a sentence.

Don't forget to put quotation marks around anything you copy word-for-word.
